Virginia RogersVirginia Rogers has worked in the rewarding field of education for the past 30 years on Long Island. She received her Bachelors in Education from the State University of New York at Old Westbury and her Masters of Liberal Studies degree at Stony Brook University. After earning her master's degree, she went on to earn an additional 60 credits towards her New York State Social Studies Certification and New York State School District Administration Certification. As an elementary school teacher, Virginia taught an integrated course of ELA and History with a targeted focus on argumentative and expository writing. Virginia's role on the secondary level has been one of a teacher, a lead teacher, and a Department Chairperson of both Middle School and High School. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at her alma mater, SUNY College at Old Westbury in the History Department.

Recently, Virginia has founded her own educational consulting company called, Targeted Tenacity LLC. Her area of expertise is coaching educators working in at-risk districts with new initiatives and Best Practices, such as UbD unit planning, Inquiry- Based Learning, Data- Driven Instruction, and Performance-Based Assessment. These strategies are all aimed at achieving greater student success to better prepare them for the real-world. Virginia has emphasized in both her teaching and coaching the need for collaborative team-building, keeping in alignment with 21st Century goals and expectations.

In 2012, while serving as Department Chairperson and classroom teacher in her school district, Virginia was introduced to Thinking Maps. Within a year of her professional development in Thinking Maps, Virginia recognized the power of the Maps and pursued a larger role in her district. She became a Thinking Maps Trainer, working with both the Middle School and High School. Still in the classroom, Virginia implemented Thinking Maps with fidelity. She saw evidence of the positive effects of the Maps. The impact was undeniable. Her students' Regents scores increased within the first year of mastering the Maps, and a majority of her students achieved Mastery levels, scoring 85% or above, on the New York State Regents Exam.

Currently, Virginia is influencing and supporting educators to see and implement the power of the Maps. Her first- hand experience with the Maps in the classroom and as a Department Chairperson has given her the passion, vision, and absolute buy-in to coach others in this meaningful thinking.

On a personal note, Virginia is happiest being surrounded by her husband, four children and six grandchildren.
