Andy Matthews, Ed. D.

Andy MatthewsAndrea "Andy" Matthews (Ed.D., University of Georgia (UGA) in Educational Leadership; MS, UGA in Child and Family Development; BA, Albertus Magnus College in Psychology, Spanish and Art Therapy) has worked as an Educational Consultant since her retirement in 2011, following 28 years as a full-time educator. Andy's educational career in Georgia includes work with students from birth to grade 12 as well as support for educators at all levels and across virtually all areas of instruction.

Her 10 years as a classroom teacher were spent teaching moderately and profoundly intellectually disabled students, students identified as at-risk for failure at the middle school level, and general education students in the area of science. Andy also served as a special education consultant and Child Find coordinator for an eight county region in Georgia. Andy concluded her career with administrative experience at the elementary school level and nearly fifteen years as a district level leader in the areas of human resources and professional development.

Andy's consulting work has been focused in both the Southeast and the Northeast regions. Her work has included working with teachers and students in the areas of behavior management, the teaching of reading and writing, effective instructional strategies, and support for special education. The focus of her more recent work has been the work of integrating Thinking Maps into teaching and learning in classrooms and throughout entire schools and districts. Andy currently lives on the coast of Maine.

Dr. Andy Matthews is an educational consultant with 28 years as an educator across all grade levels and multiple content areas. She combines her experience as a middle and high school special education teacher, teacher and director of a program for at-risk middle school students, special education consultant and Child Find coordinator (birth to Pre-k), middle school science teacher, elementary administrator, and fifteen years as a district level leader in the areas of human resources and professional development as she supports teachers and leaders in their utilization of Thinking Maps for critical and creative thinking in the classroom and at the leadership level. For the past several years, Andy has provided Thinking Maps training extensively in the Southeast and, most recently in the NYC and Long Island areas.
